Downtown Cambridge Soul of the Shore

Steeped in history, surrounded by water, and exuding charm, Cambridge Maryland is a big small town. With dozens of restaurants, independent shops, galleries and popular craft brewery, this historic, walkable community is a magnet for boaters, beer lovers and foodies.

Choptank was hired to help the city “get its groove back.” Working with community leaders, board and staff, we created a place brand that honors downtown’s past and celebrates its vibrant present and bright future.

Evoking a fun and festive vibe, “Soul of the Shore” offers a retro feel, modern color palette, and bold declaration of Cambridge’s spirit. It recalls a time of neon signs, jazz clubs and theaters when Cambridge was known as “Groove City.” The brand affirms the city’s modern day place as the heart and soul of the Chesapeake.

“Choptank Communications has helped our small non-profit organization navigate a very complex strategy of community input and visioning for our re-branding effort. With so many invested in our downtown both financially and as public space, there was a lot on the line to get it right.
